When one school does it, they all do it! Mentakab Mentor Jimmy's TELL2 school SK Bangau also had a cross country run. This event was along the rural roads, so police escorts had to be prepared. What the police escorts weren't prepared for, was the emergence of an uninvited guest runner. Can you spot the runner that doesn't belong?
Here, we see the students warming up before their run. This cross-country run included students in years 3,4,5, and 6. The bottom photo shows TELL2 mentee Suhana getting ready to take a picture. She is the unofficial photographer for SK Bangau.

Police escorts and uninvited guests are normal in this area!

TELL2 school SK Bandar Mentakab held its cross country run for their students recently. Mentakab Mentor Martina was able to get some great pictures of the students running along their route! She helped monitor the students during their run and also at the prize giving ceremony.

SK schools place a lot of emphasis on physical education activities in order to provide the foundation for a healthy, active lifestyle for young students.

Jimmy's TELL2 school SK Bangau was one of the schools that was located near the river. As a result, it was one of the schools that was affected the most by the flooding. However, between the time that the rains finally stopped and the first day of school, so many people came to help restore and repair the damage that the school was ready to start on time! The difference between two weeks can be seen in the following pictures. Thanks to all of the volunteers and teachers that came to help make sure that the school was ready.

The school was badly flooded right after Dec 25.

There was a lot of damage on Jan 5.

When Mentakab mentors Jimmy and Martina arrived in Malaysia, the floods were at their peak. This meant that roads were hazardous or completely flooded, many people were displaced, there was a food shortage for many people.

During this time, Martina and Jimmy helped out in their local neighborhood with flood relief. Using their time and energy to help build flood relief packages in their community for those who were affected by the flooding.

Many people from the neighborhood came out to help package canned food, biscuits, water, and rice to be given to flood victims.

Welcome back to the new school year and 2015! Temerloh mentors Jimmy, Martina, and Tom were able to get back to our homes safely; despite the record-breaking flooding that occurred in the area. We mentors and Brighton Education hope that all of our teachers were able to get through this time of devastation and natural disaster.

In the coming week, we will be coming around to all of the schools to check on the teachers and see how everyone is doing. In the first few weeks, we will be having some meetings and making some plans to help guide us smoothly into the new school year!

Happy New Year and we look forward to
seeing everyone soon!
